Thai Smile Business Class is called "Smile Plus" It is closer to an Intra-European Business Class than Thai Airways Business Class within Thailand. A lot has changed with this route since I flew it back in May. Thai Smile is an off-shoot of Thai Airways, but no longer operates with a TG flight number. Now all Thai Smile flights two letter code is WE. This most likely will effect Thai's Star Alliance partners on these flights. I doubt you will receive Star Alliance benefits with Thai Smile (you still do with Thai's Royal Orchid Plus program). I recently flew from Bangkok to Moscow Domodedovo on Qatar Airways through Doha. I was a little apprehensive about flying Qatar because they were only flying an A320 between Doha and Moscow DME. Plus, from what little information I could find on this route or aircraft prior to me purchasing my tickets, said the seats in Business Class on the A320 was not up to their long-haul standards. But, I have heard so many great things about Qatar Airways and their membership in One World (and being able to collect American AAdvantage miles) helped me decided to fly Qatar. This post is actually a follow up from one I wrote two years ago on how it seemed to be getting harder to receive a complimentary premier upgrade (CPU) on United. I have wanted to readdress this topic since last year as getting upgraded in 2013 seemed to be the way it was prior to the Continental/United merger. Recently (well December) I was finally was able to fly on Lufthansa's Boeing 747-800 from LAX to FRA in Business Class. It is hard to believe that the 747-8 has been in service for over a year and a half.
